The history of sanding
Without Karl Heesemann, the founder of our company, the history of sanding in Germany would be unthinkable. In 1933, under the worst political and economical circumstances imaginable, the 24-year old engineer decided to improve and market the already established but still young sliding table belt sanding technology. The solutions developed with a juvenile verve quickly found their first buyers.
The first appearance on the Leipzig trade fair in 1937, the most important industrial trade fair back then, resulted in nationwide contacts and even more customers.
When World War II broke out in 1939, the production of wood processing machines was prohibited until 1947.
Soon afterwards, with fresh verve and new ideas, the young entrepeneur started improving the surface treatment technology. Sometimes very basic technologies and trend-setting innovations came into being for surfaces as well as for profiles and edges, technologies which are still being used today. Karl Heeseman was the motor, the motivator, the developer and the designing engineer who kept it all going. Until he was more than 90 years old he accompanied all company's activities. Karl Heesemann died in February 2002.
Formation of Heesemann
Without Karl Heesemann, the founder of our company, the history of sanding in Germany would be unthinkable. In 1933, under the worst political and economical circumstances imaginable, the 24-year old engineer decided to improve and market the already established but still young sliding table belt sanding technology.
First appearance on the Leipzig trade fair
The first appearance on the Leipzig trade fair in 1937, the most important industrial trade fair back then, resulted in nationwide contacts and even more customers.
Belt sanding machine for wet sanding BN 1
A new development by Heesemann was presented with the BN 1 sanding machine for wet sanding. Lacquered surfaces were able to be polished mechanically for the first time using this machine.
Profile and edge sanding machine PK 1
The ground-breaking PK 1 profile and edge sanding machine was released. Profiled work-pieces were able to be sanded while passing through a machine for the first time.
Semi-automatic long-belt sanding machine BA 2
The BA 2 semi-automatic long-belt sanding machine with pressure lamellar belt was the first step towards automating the sanding process. The pressure beam needed for this and the circumferential pressure lamellar belt are still being used today as a system.
Double-belt sanding machine DBV 1
The DBV 1 double-belt sanding machine became an export hit due to its performance features.
First cross-sanding workgroup
The first cross-sanding workgroup consists of two DBVs with angle transfer. That way surfaces of the highest quality were achieved.
Cross-sanding machine KSA 1
Trend-setting: the first KSA 1 cross-sanding machine with cross and longitudinal sanding belt.
Universal edge and profile sanding machine UKP 11
The UKP 11 universal edge and profile sanding machine expands the abilities of the PK 1, field-tested since 1952. Now intricate profiles were able to be sanded in a single pass.
Segmented pressure beam with an electronic control mechanism
The segmented pressure beam was equipped with an electronic control mechanism. This was the basis for automatic in-line sanding processing.
Surface mould sanding machine FFA 2-B
The FFA 2-B surface mould sanding machine enables sanding three-dimensional shell moulds.
Electronically controlled pressure beam
The electronically controlled pressure beam enabled a thickness tolerance of 2 mm for the first time. The optimised dust extraction reduces the energy consumption by 50 per cent of the values typical at the time.
CSD® magnetic pressure beam system
Development and market launch of the electromagnetic pressure beam with a CSD® system protected by patents back then. It automatically regulated the contact pressure of each contact segment depending on the workpiece’s size and shape. The CSD® system guarantees an even pressure build-up down to the edges.
Decentralised control technology
Deployment of decentralised control technology for controlling the whole machine.
Calibration rollers with NC axes
Further development of the calibrating machine with transferring the calibration rollers via NC axes.
Switchboard with modular electrical system
The switchboard with a modularly designed electrical system was introduced. Today’s housing concepts are still based on this.
Sanding centre SZ 2
Variably shaped outlines were able to be processed with belt sanding units for the first time with the SZ 2 sanding centre. This machine was able to sand table plates with rounded edges as well as shell moulds of interior car panels.
CSD® plus
Clearing the way for even finer sanding quality: CSD® Plus offers two separately controllable pressure beams in a single sanding unit.
Orbital sanding unit OSR
Heesemann orbital sanding units reduce cross-grain scratches in the throughput.
Autotrace
Autotrace is coming – with automatically controlled sanding belt oscillation.
Disk brush unit RUT
With the RUT brush sanding units a new concept for the sanding deployment of brushes was introduced.
3D-LaserScan
3D-LaserScan - Workpiece recognition via laser.
Water-cooled servo drives
Water-cooled servomotors with assured operational performance of the sanding belt of 0.1 - 20 m/sec
EnergyManagement-System
The EnergyManagement-System is a system to save energy, from which our environment and the machine-user benefit to the same degree. A diminished energy consumption unburdens the environment and reduces the cost.
HSM .2/.3
The Heesemann HSM is the perfect sanding machine to enter the premium segment of sanding. The Heesemann HSM is available in predefined standard configurations. Thanks to its standardized set-up, the HSM offers proven Heesemann sanding Technology with an outstanding price-performance ratio.
Control upgrade for old machines
Heesemann introduce a control upgrade package for old machines. The upgrade replaces the original control and offers features of new Heesemann machines.
MFA Impression
On Xylexpo Heesemann present a new generation of their MFA Impression machine series. The MFA Impression now offers sanding belt speeds on the contact rollers of 24 meter per second and the possibility to use longer sanding belts on cross sanding units.
Heesemann introduces profiRounder
A new era of deburring has just begun! On EuroBlech 2016 Heesemann introduce a completely new type of deburring and edge chamfering machines for metal treatment.
Creative Sanding Effects
The process of creating creative sanding effects has been automated with Heesemann surface sanding machines. Be it rough saw cut, planer or vintage effects - all can be created partially or on the whole surface.
Heesemann calibration machine LSM 8-C
Heesemann introduces a special calibration machine based on well-known LSM 8. The LSM 8-C combines up to three contact roller units (steel or rubber-coated) and a longitudinal sanding unit with a rigid pressure beam.
Quick exchange device for brush rollers
With the quick change device brush rollers can be exchanged within very few minutes. This gives you endless variety for your brushing applications.
Wave Sanding / Oscillating steel sheet
With the oscillating steel sheet creative sanding effects can now be created in a wave shape. Thanks to the CSD pressure beam the effect can be randomly distributed on partial surfaces.
Facelift, widening and lengthening of MFA 10
The MFA 10 has been renewed. Part of the renewal is a lengthening on up to 8 processing units in one machine. In addition a sanding with of 1,600 mm has been introduced.
MMI - Intuitive operation
MMI supports the operator to equally wear sanding belts across the whole width. It also signals the status of the machine well recognizable even from big distance. LEDs on the side of the machine allow easy location of faults.
Planetary head DB-S
The planetary head DB-S offers utmost variety from edge breaking to very fine surface sanding - even on solid surfaces. Brushes and satellites can be controlled totally independent in speed and direction.
21,5" terminal with renewed user interface
The user interface of Heesemann sanding machines has been totally renewed. The new interface comes with a high-performance 21,5" Full-HD terminal with multi-touch support.
