LIGNA 2017 - Exhibition review

The Ligna is the most important show for the woodworking industry throughout the world. This event of capital importance has been a tremendous success.

Heesemann has presented a wide range of products on 450 square meters on its booth B46 in hall 17. A new machine concept - LSM 8-C - for accurate calibration of panels based on the successful, three-shift operation LSM 8 has been shown for the first time. With this machine Heesemann complies with multiple requests from customers. Furthermore Heesemann has extended and completed its portfolio of brush units for sanding and structuring three-dimensional work pieces. The new generation of the MFA Impression, introduced at Xylexpo 2016 in Milan, has been presented in Germany for the first time. A MFA 10 has been used as a platform for special units. The orbital scratch removal unit OSR already enjoying great popularity in North America and increasingly in Asia has been demonstrated in action for the first time in Europe. The MFA 10 has been additionally equipped with brush rollers with a newly developed quick exchange system and a strengthened version of the disk brush unit RUT. The Heesemann after-sales service has been presented in an own area on the booth. In addition to genuine Heesemann spare parts new service offerings have been presented. Service contracts, the possibility of a control upgrade within the scope of a rebuild package as well as a complete mechanical rebuild complete the portfolio.

HSM .2/.3

Starting on LIGNA 2015 the machine series HSM is the entrance to the world of Heesemann sanding machines. Since its introduction on the exhibition Heesemann has sold more than 50 machines to customers based in all relevant markets and regions. The predefined configurations of HSM series allow a fast entrance to the high-quality segment at a favorable price. At LIGNA 2017 Heesemann has presented the HSM .3 in the configuration with a contact roller, a cross sanding unit and a longitudinal sanding unit. This machine can successfully be used for all applications – be it calibration, solid wood or veneer sanding or intermediate lacquer or high-gloss sanding. The HSM already offers many of the advantages of the higher Heesemann sanding machines like the CSD® magnetic pressure beam that is unrivaled for 30 years now.

New MFA Impression

New MFA Impression

One level higher the MFA Impression is available, being successful in the market for many years. This machine has been completely redesigned before Xylexpo 2016. In addition to a new housing the technical details of the machine have been readjusted. The contact rollers now offer high cutting speeds of 24 meter per second that are unrivaled in this class. At LIGNA Heesemann has shown the MFA Impression in the configuration with a cross sanding unit, a longitudinal sanding unit with an eccentric bearing of the front return drum, a longitudinal sanding unit with a pressure segment belt and a brush roller unit for structuring. This machine covers all possible applications from slight calibration work, sophisticated fine sanding of solid wood and veneered work pieces up to high-gloss sanding.

Units for special tasks

On the basis of the MFA 10 machine series Heesemann has presented some special units and new developments. The Heesemann orbital scratch removal unit OSR has been demonstrated in Europe for the first time. This unit already enjoys great popularity in North America and increasingly in Asia. The orbital scratch removal unit removes the sanding marks generated at sanding frames or other work pieces with different grain directions (e.g. five-piece doors) due to the unavoidable sanding crosswise to the grain direction. These scratch patterns are very evident especially when using dark stains. The Heesemann OSR removes these scratches and leaves a clean surface with no visible scratches. More than 100 OSR units are in daily use at the leading producers of furniture and interior fittings in North America. In addition the MFA 10 carries a cross sanding unit, a strengthened version of the RUT disk brush unit and two oscillating brush roller units equipped with a newly developed quick exchange system. The RUT has been significantly reinforced to allow even more intensive structuring. The brush roller units can be loosened from their lock with a few handles. They can be moved out of the machine to the side. This allows the exchange of the brush rollers and the rebuilding of the machine for new requirements within a few minutes.

New calibrating machine LSM 8-C

Completely new is the calibrating machine LSM 8-C based on the legendary, three-shift operation LSM 8. The new machine is available as a three or four head machine as a start. Configurations with one steel contact roller, one or two rubber-coated contact rollers and a longitudinal sanding unit with pressure segment belt and a rigid pressure beam can be ordered. Developing this new calibrating machine Heesemann paid special attention on solid engineering with regard to the application, easiest operation and most possible compactness of the machine. The machine combines the well-known high Heesemann quality relating to engineering as well as surface quality and an attractive pricing.

New brush unit DB-St

The new brush unit DB-St consists of five heads with two disk brushes each. The heads and the disk brushes both rotate clockwise or counter-clockwise. The unit is positioned as an attractive alternative to the well-proven Heesemann RUT disk brush unit. It can be used for sanding deeper lying areas of the work pieces and for breaking edges.

Rebuild package and machines

Within the scope of a rebuild package Heesemann offers an upgrade for the machine control for older machines. Machines build in 1995 or later can be updated to meet today’s requirements and to ensure the supply of spare parts for many years. Next to the control unit components the rebuild package contains a new operating terminal, access to the operating data via network, the possibility for remote maintenance and the Heesemann creative sanding program. With the creative sanding program the customer can generate effects like rough saw-cut patterns, random troughs or Vintage look in feed-through operation. Heesemann grants full twelve months warranty on all control components. In addition to the control upgrade Heesemann now also offers a complete mechanical rebuild of machines, giving older Heesemann machines a second life.
